The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

There is no longer Jew of Greek, there is no longer slave or free,
there is no longer male or female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:38

Holy Baptism is the sacramental rite by which a child or an adult is forever grafted into the Body of Christ.  The candidate is adopted and sustained by the Holy Spirit as the beloved of God, called upon by the demands of love to lose their life again and again that they may grow into the fullness of the one they are already in God’s eyes.

Ascension Memorial Church customarily celebrates the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at the 10:15am service on Sunday mornings throughout the liturgical year that work best both for the parish and for the family of the baptismal candidate.

Our Rector enjoys preparing parents and godparents to make the baptism of children a part of their own faith formation. Parents and godparents usually meet with the Rector the Saturday before the baptism so that families can get acquainted with each other, learn about Baptism, and participate in a rehearsal for the worship service. Adults are equally encouraged to receive the sacrament fo Holy Baptism.
