The AMC Youth Group is made up of high school age youth from AMC and supported by several adult advisors. The group gathers regularly to share friendship, meals, conversation, community service projects, recreational activities and outings, fundraising events, overnight adventures, and shared planning for Youth Mission Trips. This is a group of individuals who share in common, despite our differences – a willingness and commitment to having fun, practicing kindness, and making a positive difference.

Here’s a look at the Youth Group by Vince Skelton, this year’s president:

Our youth group is doing well over this past year. We usually meet every other Sunday. Our typical meeting is about two hours long. We have lunch and we talk about upcoming events. We also play games in the gym before lunch. Then after lunch, we work on our current project, the Agawam Village bus stop, which we hope to assemble on site by the end of spring. We are almost done with the two side walls. The longest part was planning and communicating with the Housing Authority and drawing out the plans. We got a donation from the Institution for Savings and from the Rotary Club of Ipswich. Both organizations gave us $750 and Jim Tedford of Tedford’s Hardware Store gave us a discount for the wood and other materials.

We are also planning a mission trip to Cuba. The Outreach Committee gave us $1,000 in support of our going on a mission trip. We are planning on using that money for Cuba but we still need more money for mainly airfare. We think that we will sleep in a church to save money. We plan to raise money too. We decided to go to Cuba because many parishes go to other countries in the Caribbean and Central America. We can go to Cuba legally by getting a religious visa.

We currently have about ten or 15 kids and 3 advisors. Our advisors are Brad Clark, Adam Foley, and Dan Alexson. They let us run the meeting ourselves and just help guide the meetings and give us ideas. It seems the kids really like Youth Group. It is really fun when you are there and it is a great group of kids.
